Gil Zilkha, bass-baritone

Gil Zilkha is a native of Austin, Texas. He received his Master’s in Voice Performance from the University of Texas in 2000. Since then he has performed numerous concert and oratorio solos, including Bach’s St. John Passion, Mass in B minor, Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat, and Ich habe genug,as well as other numerous cantatas. He has been featured as soloist also in Beethoven’s Mass in C,Dvorak’s Stabat mater, Handel’s Messiah and Judas Maccabeus, Haydn’s Creation and Nelson mass,Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, Mozart’s Requiem, C minor Mass, and Coronation mass, and Arvo Pärt’sMiserere.

Among the ensembles with whom Gil performs regularly are the Texas Early Music Project, Conspirare, Oregon Bach Festival, and the Texas Choral Consort. Gil made his Austin Lyric Opera debut last season as Count Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto. Gil also enjoys singing German Lieder, and his CD “The Art of Lieder” can be found at Waterloo Records in Austin. Gil received a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2002.
