Chaz Nailor

Chaz Nailorbaritone

Texas native Chaz Nailor has recently returned to Austin after pursuing doctoral studies in vocal performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he was a recipient of the T.I.S. Tichenor Foundation Scholarship through the Society of the Friends of Music. His performance studies have enabled him to portray operatic roles that range from the Baroque to the 20th Century. In addition, Nailor has been featured in principal roles of the musical theater genre, including Mr. Bumble of Lionel Bart’s Oliver! and Uncle Vince of The Token, which had its world premiere in the fall of 2005.

He has worked with The University of Texas Butler Opera CenterLyric Opera San Antonio, and most recently, the Indiana University Opera Theater. His roles range from Argante of Handel’s Rinaldo to Benoit of Puccini’s La Boheme, and extends to Junius of Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. Nailor’s most recent performance for the opera stage was his role as Dr. Bartolo in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.

He also performs with equal adeptness on the concert stage as baritone soloist in a number of masses and oratorios. He recently was a featured soloist with the Texas Choral Consort, performing the roles of Adam in The Creation and as Simon in The Seasons, both by Franz Joseph Haydn. Nailor is currently on the rosters of two vocal chamber ensembles in south central Texas: the Austin Vocal Arts Ensemble (AVAE) and the San Antonio Chamber Choir (SACC), as well as TEMP.
