Founded in 1987 by Daniel Johnson, the Texas Early Music Project is dedicated to preserving and advancing the art of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical music through performance, recordings, and educational outreach. 

Brent Baldwin

Brent Baldwinbaritone


Brent Baldwin maintains an active musical career as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and conductor, performing regularly throughout the United States and abroad. He currently serves as the Artistic Director for the Texas Choral Consort, and directs an eclectic music program at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin.

As a conductor, Baldwin has premiered over a dozen works including projects with the Golden Hornet Orchestra, the Barbwire Music Project and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Shulamit Ran of Israel. He holds a master’s degree in conducting from the University of Texas, where he studied with Craig Hella Johnson, and was a frequent guest assistant conductor for the Early Music Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, Longhorn Singers, Chorale and the Chamber Singers. Brent has directed the music program at the Leysin American School of Switzerland and has served as conductor-in-residence at the International School of Bangkok.

A native of Maine, Brent was the first prize winner for New England in the Downeast Classical Guitar Competition, and a finalist in the Music Teachers National Association national guitar competition. He has sung as a member of Conspirare Chamber Choir and has performed as pianist for the Austin New Music Co-op. Brent is also a regular fixture in the Austin club scene, playing various instruments for Black Before Red, The Normans, Michael Kingcaid, among others.
